For more than 230 years, American inventors have relied on the United States patent system to protect their intellectual property. That promise of protection has been an incentive and driving force behind the innovations that have made the U.S. the global economic powerhouse it is today.
On June 19th we’re celebrated the commemoration of the 10 millionth patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). To honor the occasion, the USPTO hosted a reception at George Washington’s estate, Mt. Vernon. It’s there that the only functioning example of Patent 3X (the third issued patent) can be found. The patent is for a gristmill — a mill used for processing flour and cornmeal — and it was issued and signed by George Washington in 1790. This symbolic event honors the original vision of the Founding Fathers, who had hoped to “promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts.”1
Please help us mark this momentous occasion and help fulfill the Founding Fathers’ intention by voicing your support for the STRONGER Patents Act. The legislation aims to ensure our patent system continues to be a driving force for innovation, economic growth and job creation. Learn more about the STRONGER Patents Act here.
